How it works

How it works, step by step

No surprises. Nothing moves forward without your written approval.

The journey

From first question to payment

  1. 01

    Free assessment

    About 5 minutes

Tell us which systems you use, roughly how many years of records you have, and how big your team is. You describe the data. You don't send it.

  2. 02

    Our honest read

Usually within a few business days

We look at what you've described and tell you plainly whether buyers are likely to be interested, and what kind of buyer fits. If it's not a fit, we'll say so.

  3. 03

    Introduction

If there's a fit, we introduce you to a vetted buyer or licensing platform that suits your type of data. If exclusivity is involved, we explain it before you agree to the introduction.

  4. 04

    Scoping

You and the buyer agree on which systems and date ranges are included. Anything can be off-limits: a folder, a client, a topic, HR records. Some buyers ask to review a small redacted sample first.

  5. 05

    Written offer

You get the offer in writing. It spells out what's included, how the data can be used, whether the deal is exclusive, how long the license runs, the price and the payment schedule. You can say no. Have your lawyer review it before you sign.

  6. 06

    Export

Usually your IT person or provider runs an approved export or sets up a read-only connection. You never hand over passwords.

  7. 07

    Scrubbing (de-identification)

Names, emails, phone numbers, account numbers, credentials and sensitive personal information are removed or replaced with placeholders. Good providers pair automated tools with human review, and many show you a summary of what was removed before delivery.

  8. 08

    Delivery

The cleaned copy goes only to the buyer named in your agreement, for the uses it allows. Your original systems stay with you.

  9. 09

    Payment

You're paid on the schedule in your agreement. That's usually after delivery or acceptance, not at signing.

Timing

How long does it take?

Every deal is different, so we can't promise a timeline. Industry guides describe well-prepared deals taking a few weeks, and more typical ones taking two to three months from first conversation to payment. Deals that involve regulated data or a lot of systems can take longer.

Your approvals

What you'll be asked to approve

  • Which systems and date ranges are included
  • What's left out
  • Who receives the data, and for what use
  • Exclusive or non-exclusive
  • License term, price and payment schedule
